James and I would like to convene educators interested in James Burke's Knowledge Web in an online meeting on Saturday May 28 (apologies for impinging on holiday weekend, but some issues are time-sensitive; you can still participate even if you can't make the real-time session, see below). As with our general meeting a few months ago, we'll use Groupmindexpress to gather and organize your ideas about K-Web features, curriculum and professional development (perhaps funded by a federal Teaching American History grant http://www.ed.gov/programs/teachinghistory/index.html ). If at all possible, please take a few minutes to complete the first four items before the meeting (you can add to and refine your responses during as well). Here's how to access:

In conjunction with Groupminds, we'll use Flashmeeting for voice chat (and video if you have a webcam). Your computer will need a speaker (often built in) to hear us, but you can enter text chat if you don't have a microphone. Access to the meeting is free, and requires no installation, just a web browser & Flash 7 plugin (you can check your version of Flash and download a new version if need be from Flashmeeting FAQ page).
It's best if we all use the low resolution setting, even if you have broadband. There's a quickstart guide here http://flashmeeting.com/, and you can try it out anytime by using the demo link.

On the 28th, you'll need the following link to enter the videoconference http://flash.kmi.open.ac.uk:8080/flashmeeting/index.php?code=d7834f-1088&room=fm1088 The session will open at 9 am PDT
for introductions and social time to get accustomed to the software; the meeting proper will go from 9:30-10:30 (10:30 Mtn, 11:30 Central, 12:30 Eastern, 4:30 GMT; others at http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=5&day=28&year=2005&hour=9&min=30&sec=0&p1=256 )

I'll also do two techcheck/Q&A/suggestion box sessions with Flashmeeting Thurs 5/26 4 pm PDT (use demo link at http://flashmeeting.com/) and 9am PDT Sat 21st here: http://flash.kmi.open.ac.uk:8080/flashmeeting/index.php?code=c1be59-1089&room=fm1089

If you can't make the online meeting, you can still go in beforehand and add your input, and go in after to see our results. Replay of the video after the session will be available for a limited time at http://flash.kmi.open.ac.uk:8080/flashmeeting/memo.php?code=d7834f-1088&room=fm1088

As space is limited on 28th, an rsvp would be helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Looking forward to it,

pmck
