Online Videoconferences
As promised, as a followup
to our team meeting in the Silicon Valley in December, we're going to have some
realtime online videoconferences. The first will be a general
meeting, Saturday February 11, 9-10:30 am Pacific Time (1700 GMT; converter
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedform.html),
for everyone in which new folks can get a sense of the project and the people
working on it, we can get updates, and plan next steps. We'll use Flashmeeting.com
software, which allows video, audio and text. There's no software to download,
but you will need the free Flash plugin (version 7 or greater; you can get it
at http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/
). At a minumum, you'll want speakers. A microphone is nice, but a webcam
is not at all necessary (but fun and cost as little as twenty bucks at most
electronic stores or here's ebay:
a headset is useful to minimize feedback ebay).
The 2/11 session can be accessed at http://flash.kmi.open.ac.uk:8080/fm/index.php?pwd=161f58-3151
I highly recommend that you go to http://www.flashmeeting.com/
and hit the demo link to test your computer setup. You can do this anytime,
though I will login a half hour before the meetings for informal chat and getting
familiar with the Flashmeeting interface, though it's pretty straightforward.
The software does limit us to 20 or so users, so logging in early is a good
idea.
As with our last online meeting, you can log into Groupmeeting Express
http://gme.groupmindexpress.com/k-web/index.php3?object_id=c7745762c7917a09b94039b4523afb94&t=1138906928
to add input before, during and after the realtime session (and obviously anyone
who can't attend the realtime session can participate in this way). If you want
a login for this (or a reminder of your old one) let me know, but you can also
use the guest login (username guest, password guest, and identify yourself at
the end of each entry if you like). You can also replay the videoconferences
(see links below).
Technical Meeting: The following Saturday 2/18
at 9:00 am PST (8:30 tech check), we'll have folks interested in the technology
